What an exciting time we have had this week learning about different types of transport! One of the highlights was a visit from the local police who helped us to understand the features of a police car, including the lights and the siren, and reminded us how to cross a road safely.  We had our fingerprint taken and some of us even tried on a police helmet and tried using the walkie talkie!
Earlier in the week we had a learning experience from Little City. It was so exciting to dress up in different clothes and vehicles and use our imagination in role as different people who help us.

This week the children in Reception have been learning about transport. They have discussed different transport e.g. land, air, sea and have focused on fire engines. They have talked about the Great Fire of London and looked at fire engines from the past.
They had a wonderful scooter obstacle course as part of their PE lesson, practising to weave in and out of cones and along the lines of the playground.

The children in Reception have been learning about Remembrance day.  They talked about and thought about the soldiers and why we wear poppies at this time of year. They decorated poppies using different materials and watched the CBeebies animation. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04p4zsl/poppies

This week we have been learning to write letters. We have started writing in a new phonic book and writing in chalks and in shaving foam. We have used handwriting rhymes to help us e.g. a= round the apple, down the leaf.

This week in Reception, the children have been learning about 'size and weight.' They have enjoyed different stories about measures too. They have measured the length of different objects, measured our heights and used balance scales to investigate the weight of different objects. They have used these words: enormous, heaviest, longest, shortest, enormous, massive, huge.

Reception have had an amazing week thinking about shape and colour, two of our favourite books have been The Rainbow Fish and Elmer. The Rainbow fish was shimmering and sparkly.  Elmer was not ordinary but patchwork.

What a busy week we have had! The Reception children have been busy learning about 'food'. They have been stirring, sieving, pouring, mixing, kneading and spreading. The children enjoyed making jam sandwiches and making bread rolls. Thank you to our volunteer Debbie who helped us to make the bread.
