Safeguarding

Child Protection – Duty of Care

The Roundswell Community Primary Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have a statutory duty to report concerns raised that might indicate that a child is at risk of harm to the relevant authorities. In some circumstances we may do this without your consent and/or without informing you.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding any aspect of safeguarding, please contact the school and ask to speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Lizzy Toon. You can also contact Lizzy Toon via email lizzy.toon@roundswell.tarkatrust.org.uk or 01271 445111. If you have a concern about a child before the school’s opening date, please contact MASH, the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (details below).

MASH – Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub

MASH is the central resource for the whole of Devon receiving all safeguarding and child protection enquiries. If you have any concerns about the welfare and safety of a child, please contact them on 0345 1551071.

Early Help

When a child/young person/family needs something extra, Early Help is the initial response offered by all services in contact with children, young people and families. This builds an understanding to address extra needs and prevent situations from getting more difficult for children and young people.  The aim of Early Help is to build on people’s capacity and resources to manage their own dilemmas, resolve their own difficulties and prevent further problems in the future. Early Help is not a designated team; it is the way that EVERYONE works together to support the needs of families.

NSPCC – Speak Out, Stay Safe

Encouraging your children to speak up and share their feelings help keep them safe.  The NSPCC website  has useful information for helping parents keep children safe.

Operation Encompass

The school is part of Operation Encompass which runs jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police.

Operation Encompass is the early reporting on to schools that a child or young person has been exposed to domestic abuse.

Prevent

Prevent is part of the UK government’s counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST. Its aim is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

The Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a statutory duty on specified authorities to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”.

The strategy involves thousands of people – police and intelligence officers, the emergency services, local authorities, businesses, voluntary and community organisations, governments and other partners – working together across the UK and the world to protect the public.
