This week our concept in the nursery was space and prepositions with a hook back to movement
The concept language for movement was:
Space and Prepositions:
Level 1: By, off, over, to, inside, out, under
Level 2: round, away, next to, through
New language: through behind, bottom, forwards, in front of
Back, backwards, beside, between, front, high, low
Movement:
Level 1: fast, slow (ly), walk, run, kick, push
Level 2: roll, jump, stand, hop, skip, climb, throw, catch
Level 3: skip, pass
New language: cut, snip, pat, crawl
The stories we have shared this week are We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Gingerbread Man and Hop Little Bunny. We have sung the songs Hop Little Bunny and If You’re Happy and You Know It.
This week in the nursery some of our provision has included:
Small world role play of our stories, ball play, dancing to music, exploring instruments and moving to them, scarf play, tarpaulin river outside, small world prepositions, under blankets, assault courses etc
Also in the nursery this week:
Maths has been positional games using scarves and small bears.​​

This week our concept in the nursery was clothes with a hook back to size and weight. The concept language for this was:
Clothes:
Level 1: coat, shoes, hat
Level 2: Jumper, t-shirt, dress, socks, cardigan, skirt, trousers, pants
Level 3: knickers
Size and Weight:
Level 1: heavy, little
Level 2: Empty, full, small, big
Level 3: Large, light, bigger
The stories we shared are Simon Sock, The Smartest Giant in Town, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Too Heavy, Too Light. We have sung familiar nursery rhymes.
This week in the nursery some of our provision has included:
Small world role play of our stories, dressing up, clothes shop role play, sock matching, playing with different sized balls, exploring sizes and weights of natural objects, mud play and water play.
Also in the nursery this week:
Maths has been linked to exploring size and weight using scales to investigate weights of various objects and matching digits to amounts.

his week our concept in the nursery was shape with a hook back to colour.
The concept language we will cover for this was:
Shape:
Level 1: dot, line, round, spot
Level 2: circle, flat, square
Level 3: triangle
New language: cross, curved, oval, shape, rectangle, straight
Colour: blue, green, red, pink, purple, yellow, black, white, darker, lighter
The stories we have shared are Shapes, The Perfect Fit, Mixed, Mix It Up and Brown Bear, What the Ladybird Heard and Brown Bear. Bumblebees have also been learning the song I Can See a Rainbow.
This week in the nursery some of our provision has included: Shape and colour hunts, painting with objects such as blocks and wheels to create different shapes, magnetic shapes, blocks, puzzles and games and round and square cutters in play-dough. We have also had a ‘Bakery’ in our home corner where the children have made different shaped ‘biscuits’ with play dough and have then pretended to bake them. Some children had a go at writing lists of ingredients too!
Also in the nursery this week: Maths was linked to exploring shapes and colours in the environment and Phonics has been listening games.

This week our concept in the nursery was Houses and Homes with a hook back to food.
The concept language was:
Houses and Homes
Level 1: home
Level 2: house, bedroom
Level 3: kitchen
New language: garden, bathroom
Food:
Level 1: Milk, hungry, drink, cup, spoon, thank you, please
Level 2: Snack, breakfast, lunch, dinner, hot, cold, cook
Level 3: Sandwich, cereal, bowl, plate, knife, spoon, beaker
New language: recipe, tablecloth, cutlery
The stories we have shared this week are This is Our House, The Biggest Bed in the World, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Our song of the week was The Worm at the Bottom of the Garden.
This week in the nursery some of our provision has included:
Small world role play of our stories, construction, den building, junk modelling, food collages, potion making and sandwich making.
We have also made some Love Monsters for Valentine’s Day and had some Chinese New Year role play in the home corner after watching a Cbeebies clip about the celebration.

W/B 2nd February 2026

This week our concept in the nursery was movement with a hook back to emotions/feelings.
The concept language for movement and feelings was:
Movement:
Level 1: fast, slow (ly), walk, run, kick, push
Level 2: roll, jump, stand, hop, skip, climb, throw, catch
Level 3: skip, pass
Our new language was pat, cut, snip, crawl.
Feelings/emotions:
Level 1: happy, sad, hot, cold
Level 2: upset, cross, scared, angry, poorly, tired
Level 3: worried
Our new language surprised, calm and excited.
The stories we shared this week were Paper Dolls, Hop Little Bunny, The Gingerbread Man The Colour Monster and Hospital Dog. We have been singing the songs Hop Little Bunny and If You’re Happy and You Know It. Bumblebees had lots of fun choosing various movements to add to the songs such as stomping feet, jumping up and down, wiggling our bodies and tapping our heads.
This week in the nursery some of our provision has included:
Small world role play of our stories The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and The Gingerbread Man, ball/ balloon/ beanbag play, dancing to music, vet role play, making emotion faces, hot/cold water play, cutting leaves and play dough and obstacle course building using tyres, hoops, planks etc. We’ve also visited our park area for lots of movement opportunities.
Also in nursery this week:
In Phonics the children have played interactive games on the board to try and identify animal sounds and we have been reading rhyming books. In PSHE we took a rocket ship into the future and talked about jobs we might like to do.
Bumblebees have had a very active week in Bumblebees!

The stories we shared are The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Too Heavy, Too Light, A squash and a Squeeze and Jack and the Beanstalk. Bumblebees have also been learning the song I Have a Tiny Turtle.
This week in the nursery some of our provision has included:
Small world role play of our stories, Duplo and wooden blocks, playing with different sized balls, exploring sizes and weights of natural objects, playdough, mud play and water play.
Also in the nursery this week:
Maths has been linked to exploring size and weight using scales to investigate weights of various objects.
In PSHE this week, we talked about the impact of saying unkind things when our friends are trying really hard to achieve something and how that might make them feel. We also talked about how saying encouraging things to our friends will make them try even harder!
What a fun week we’ve had exploring sizes and weights in Bumblebees!

W/B 19th January 2026

This week, our concept in nursery has been ‘colour’.
The concept language that Bumblebees have focus on within the classroom provision was:
red, yellow, blue, green, white, orange, pink, purple, black, white, darker and lighter.
We have shared the stories Pete the Cat and his White Shoes, Mixed, Brown Bear and Mix it Up among many more. We have sung I can Sing a Rainbow and watched Colourblocks throughout the week.
Within the classroom provision, Bumblebees have been colour detectives in their play, played with colourful balloons and scarves and have compared dark and light colours. The children have had a ‘colour of the day’ and have used various resources to create art using that colour.
Such a fun, colourful week in Bumblebees!

W/B 5th January 2026

This week our concept in nursery was ‘feelings/emotions’ with a focus on the language:
Happy, sad, scared, upset, angry, hot and cold. Our new language this term is excited, calm and surprised.
We have shared the stories The Colour Monster, Hospital Dog and Feelings along with lots of other books related to feelings and emotions. Our songs related to this have been Miss Polly had a Dolly and If You’re Happy and You Know It.​​​​​​

Some of our provision has included using mirrors to look at their faces, explore colours related to how they feel using paints etc, create chalk faces in hoops, bubble play, vet role play, ice play and warm water play.
We have been thinking about numbers to 5 by counting forwards and backwards to 5 in games and within provision in Maths and will sing lots of counting songs such as 5 Speckled Frogs, 5 Little Ducks and 5 Monkeys on the Bed.​​​​​​​​

This week, our concept in nursery has been ‘colour’. The concept language that Bumblebees focussed on within the classroom provision was:

Level 2: yellow
Level 3: orange, pink and purple.

The books we have shared are Pete the Cat and his White Shoes, Mixed and Mix it Up, which the children have really enjoyed. Within the classroom provision, Bumblebees have been colour detectives in their play, they have also played with colourful scarves and enjoyed getting messy with paints in the outside area whilst exploring colour mixing with their hands!
As always, we have sung lots of songs this week.
We’ve had so much fun learning the language around colours in Bumblebees!
